KPMG has appointed Ferdia Byrne as partner and Claire Farrelly as associate partner to its insurance risk and actuarial practice. Both join KPMG from Towers Watson.
Byrne was a principal at Towers Watson and had management responsibility for the Risk Consulting team in Paris. Before that, he was a partner at Ernst & Young, where he set up its Zurich team focusing on product and business development in actuarial and insurance risk consulting.
At KPMG, Byrne will be supporting the development of the firm's insurance risk and actuarial practice across Europe, as well as the its integrated Solvency II offering. He will also focus on some longer term issues such as the proposed changes to IFRS in insurance.
Farrelly also joins KPMG from Towers Watson where she was a principal consultant within the Insurance and Financial Services practice. Before that, she previously worked at Ernst & Young in the UK, and at RSA in both the UK and New Zealand.
At KPMG, Farrelly will be responsible for establishing and leading the development of an actuarial team based in KPMG's Gatwick office as well as focusing on coordinating client activities across Europe and supporting the firm's Solvency II developments.
Tim Roff, head of European Insurance and Actuarial Services for KPMG, says the firm intends to double the size of its European actuarial practice over the next three years.
